Libraries already are collaboratively managing journals, newspapers, and government documents but have not yet focused on print monograph collections, which present complex challenges. A collaborative model for managing monographs would safeguard unique materials, permit better use of space in libraries, and advance current library practices in other ways. LYRASIS and its partners, the Center for Research Libraries, the California Digital Library, and the Committee on Institutional Cooperation will define the characteristics of a national, collaborative model for managing print monographs and identify issues that need testing or research. Organizations from throughout the U.S. will be invited to assist in formulation of the collaborative framework.en_US
